Senior Sendoff: Sports Editor looks back on the last two years at The Elm

By Dominic Rapposelli

Outgoing Sports Editor

For almost as long as I can remember, I have loved the idea of sports. The stories about teams, players, and sports overall is fascinating and reading these stories has been something I have enjoyed. The love of sports has something that is ingrained into my personality and an aspect of my life, which I have been lucky enough to enjoy during my time at The Elm.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, I have had the opportunity to be on the other end of these stories. As a staff writer and now Sports Editor, I have been the person who has gotten the opportunity to put these games into words and bring something to the Washington College community through writing about our athletics and the players who are a part of that.

I am additionally grateful for the opportunity to write for other sections and expand my writing talents beyond that of just the sports section, writing news articles and more theatre articles than I ever thought I would in my life over the last year-and-a-half.

The Elm has given me such an opportunity to grow and improve as a writer that I do not believe I could have gotten anywhere else.

Through the last year-and-a-half as the Sports Editor here at The Elm, I cannot be more grateful to have interacted with so many coaches, athletes, and other members of the campus community.

To anyone who wanted to read about their team or see their name in print, I hope I did a good enough job at representing you all. Additionally, to everyone who fielded an email or sat through an interview with me, I extend so much gratitude for your willingness to help and your support.

Without the student athletes and coaches at WC, there would be no need for someone like me to do this job and have such an incredible opportunity.

To the editorial team from this past year, you all are wonderful, and I know the rest of you will do great things going forward.

Evelyn, you will be an amazing Editor-in-Chief, and I look forward to an email from you every Thursday next year. You are such a wonderful person to work with and I learned a lot from your time writing in sports.

To Riley, thank you for hiring me for this job and giving me a chance to return to my role as Sports Editor. It has been amazing and thank you for believing in me to do this job.

To my fellow senior section editor Heather, you are a very talented writer and journalist. I think you will do amazing things and succeed no matter what you do. Thanks for always being ready to talk during layout and being a good friend to work with.

Writing in sports has been a dream come true, and I cannot be more grateful to The Elm for this chance.

Since I started as a staff writer and then as the section editor, I have loved my chance to be involved in this aspect of the campus community, who is so supportive of not just me, but the real journalists who write for this paper.

Now is where I pass it off to Aaron; I am excited to see what you do with the section next year. You will be amazing at it.
